Any blogger can benefit from higher search engine ranking and traffic levels.
This is especially true of business bloggers, for whom the blog equals profit and growth. When a blog has higher search engine ranking, it enjoys higher traffic levels as well. And blog traffic is the first step to connecting with your audience, spreading your ideas, and selling your products or services.
Fortunately, there are a number of effective ways a dedicated blogger can increase his or her blog’s search engine visibility for certain phrases. To help you get started along this path to visibility, I’ve put together a list of effective techniques.
1. Blog Daily

So find like-minded bloggers and leave thoughtful comments on their blogs. Trade links with them. Share ideas. Start a dialogue. Inbound links are important for good search engine ranking. An inbound link is simply a link from another blog or website to yours. Creating resources is a good way to acquire inbound links. When I say resource, I mean something truly helpful and informative that other bloggers would like to share with their readers (by way of linking to the resource). For instance, one of my blogs is about direct mail marketing. I once stumbled across a direct mail glossary on another website, and liked it so much that I linked to it from both my direct mail blog and website. The author created a valuable resource, and in doing so earned a lot of links from me and other bloggers.
6. Use Blog Directories
We just talked about the importance of inbound links to search engine ranking. Blog directories are another source of links. A blog directory is basically an online library of blogs, categorized by topic. Some blog directories offer free submissions, while other require a submission fee. When you submit your blog to a well-established blog directory, you earn a valuable link that will help with your search engine ranking.
7. Convert Posts Into Articles
Here’s another tactic for building up your inbound links. Take one of your blog posts, expand on it, shape it into an article format, and then publish it through article directories such as EzineArticles.com (with links back to your blog). Now repeat this for your other blog posts as much as possible. You can begin to see the endless potential of this approach.

When your site has a page rank, it usually means that you are receiving a fair amount of traffic and are building up what is called back links. Back links come when another site puts your link on their site. If, at all possible, you want to link with sites that have a page ranking of 3 or above.

Here are some things that can get you banned from search engines:
* Hidden text
o This is when you make the font color the same as the background color so that your customers are not able to see the wording. A way to check if sites are doing this is to press (Ctrl A). You could hide keywords in the body of your web page and no one will see them. You could also put other content on the page that no one would see but the search engines.
* Hidden links
o This is the same thing as hidden text only you do it with links. Lets say on your squeeze page you want to put a link to another page on your website, but you dont want anyone to go there, for whatever reason. This would be an example where you would hide the link and run a chance of having your site banned from the search engines.
* Keyword stuffing
o Keyword stuffing is using the exact same keyword repeatedly and in your alt tags, Meta tags, and title tags. This practice could get you banned from search engines. If you use your keywords in these tags and they are not repeated more than three times in each tag, you should be fine.
* Page cloaking
o A cloaked page is a page created to be invisible to the regular visitor of your website. The cloaked page contains code in it to detect when a search engine spider comes on the site. The spider is diverted to this cloaked page, which is set up to make your site look like one thing to a search engine in order to increase your search engine position on searches. What your customer sees is something entirely different.
* Doorways or bridge pages
o Doorway or bridge pages use the same concept as a cloaked page, but usually are located at different web hosting companies.
* Link Farms
o Link farms are “black hat” (taboo). Link farms are sites that consist of links to other sites and advertising of some sort. Their main goal is to provide a link to other sites and make money off advertising. There is usually no valuable content at all on these sites.

Link Baiting. The Stairway To Heaven Or The Gateway To Hell?
A lot of people are saying that the Web is going to Hell in a hand basket and its things like link baiting thats taking it there.
Link baiting, if youre not familiar with the term, is the latest seo solution trick that involves creating startling or controversial content that is so outrageous that people will naturally create back links to it in their blogs, e-zines and other web-based watering holes.
Its called link BAITING because its all about creating a hook that draws back links like rotten fish heads attract crabs.
Now theres nothing wrong with creating hooks, mind you, and link baiting could certainly be classified as a white hat seo expert tool if it werent for the fact that so many people are abusing the concept.
Good hooks include humorous items, new items, articles and content about valuable resources and things like that.
But Matt Cutts Devours Babies?, thats something else again. Who is Matt Cutts and why is he eating kids to begin with? Run his name through Google and youll come up with this:
Matt Cutts works for the quality group of Google, specializing in search engine optimization issues. He is well known in the seo package community for enforcing the Google Webmaster Guidelines and cracking down on link spam.
He certainly doesnt sound like a cannibal, but when that headline appeared on Threadwatch recently, no doubt posted by someone who wanted to annoy Googles Chief of Link Baiting Police, the back links started flowing like cheap wine in a hobo camp.
And what was the end result? A lot of buzz and pages of links in Google all pointing back and forth to every web site that took the bait and discussed their opinion of link baiting.
And Matt? He doesnt really eat babies.
Whats the future of link baiting? Its going to keep on happening and its up to us to self police. If you get taken in by a link baiting headline, dont give it more publicity by discussing it on your blog or sending it out to your e-zine subscribers. Thats just as bad as forwarding those stupid Bill Gates will send you $1,000 emails that come from YourFriend@AOL.com.
Be different. Be smart. Engage in link baiting but make it white hat and youll keep your self respect and your credibility.

Sick Migraines When Nausea Is Almost As Bad As The Headache Pain
For some people, the worst thing about a migraine is not the pain - it’s migraine nausea.
Nausea and vomiting are two very distressing symptoms accompanying migraines in some people. About 80% of migraine sufferers get nauseo packageus, but only 30% actually throw up. In rare occasions, a person may vomit so many times they actually become dehydrated.
Most of the time, simply treating the migraine relieves the nausea. However, the nausea and vomiting may be so bad that it actually prevents a person from taking their migraine relief medications. When this happens the nausea only serves to prolong the agony.
There are two types of migraine nausea:
Nausea thats caused by extreme pain from any source whether it be from a headache, neck or back pain, or abdominal pain.
Nausea produced by the brain sending signals down the vagus nerve into the stomach causing acute queasiness.
In the first instance, standard anti-nausea medications may be used to relieve symptoms. These medications may be taken orally as pills - or in severe cases where someone just cannot hold down anything - as rectal suppositories.
Examples of standard anti-nausea medications include:
Phenergan (promethazine hydrochloride)
Thorazine (chlorpromazine)
Compazine (prochlorperazine)
Tigan (Trimetho-benzamide hydrochloride)
Reglan (metoclopramide hydrochloride)
Gravol (dimenhydrinate)
All of the above are available in suppository form except for Reglan.
One natural method that delivers real benefits is ginger. Taking ginger in the form of tablets or even a tea has been shown to alleviate some of the nausea accompanying a migraine, as well being effective for other conditions, including motion sickness, pregnancy and vomiting after surgery.
For the type of nausea primarily caused by the brain itself, the activity that causes the migraine also causes the nausea. This is where the triptan drugs are used.
Effects of Triptans on Migraine Nausea
Triptan drugs have become the primary migraine prescription medication used since the 1990s. Examples of triptans include:
Imitrex (sumatriptan)
Maxalt (rizatriptan)
Amerge (naratriptan)
Zomig (zolmitriptan)
Axert (almotriptan)
Frova (frovatriptan)
Relpax (eletriptan)
A 2001 study comparing four of the triptans concluded that Maxalt and Zomig were more effective at relieving nausea associated with migraines than Imitrex or Amerge. Of course about a third to a half of the patients in the study got better in two hours based simply on the placebo effect.
This isnt to say that triptan medications should be used to combat nausea in non-migraine situations. Triptan medications dont directly affect the nausea itself they work in alleviating the migraine which in turn eases the nausea.
As with any oral medication, unless you can keep it in your stomach - its not going to do you much good. Of the above triptans, all come in oral forms, but some can be taken in ways other than swallowing a pill.
There are five possible triptan formulations available:
Standard oral tablet (all triptans)
Subcutaneous (under the skin) injection (Imitrex)
Quick dissolving oral tablet (sub-lingual) (Maxalt, Zomig)
Nasal spray (Imitrex, Zomig)
Rectal suppository (Imitrex)
For example, Imitrex comes as an injection, which is fast acting and relatively effective, but has a host of unpleasant side effects and is extremely expensive. Imitrex has recently become available as a nasal spray and also comes as a rectal suppository.
Zomig and Imitrex are the only two triptans that are available as nasal sprays. Sprays have the advantage of being rapidly absorbed and being quick acting with relief coming as early as 15 minutes after use.
Zomig and Maxalt are also available as quick dissolving sub-lingual (under the tongue) tablets, doing away with any problems associate with swallowing.
The triptan formulations offering an alternative to swallowing a pill allows patients the opportunity to possibly abort a migraine attack at its onset. This is very reassuring to those migraine sufferers who frequently encounter nausea - especially vomiting.
Early administration of treatment, particularly the triptans, during a migraine attack is vitally important. The preferred method of taking conventional pills and tablets is perfectly reasonable - so long as the patient is able to swallow and keep the medication down long enough for absorption to take place.
However, in situations where nausea with or without vomiting is frequent or likely, alternate forms of the triptan medications should be carefully considered.
A Better Method
There is another option a migraine cure. Cure the migraine and never worry about nausea or vomiting again.
Recent reports indicate migraine headaches can indeed be totally abolished as a number of elite medical clinics catering to women have testified. Under their treatment protocols, migraines are completely eliminated in 80% of their patients.
These successes are limited to women only, as addressing a womens hormones is the basis of the cure. Some clinics have published their treatment protocols and even made them available to the public.
The Womens Health Institute of Texas believes that a migraine cure certainly eliminates the migraine nausea altogether - and concern over the ensuing migraine headache may no longer be necessary at least in women.

What is the value of a website visitor in your online business? Determining your ROI for all your business expenses is critical. Whether you do business on or offline, things like your labor, your advertising, and your utility costs must be kept in line to remain profitable.
Determining the value of your website must also be scrutinized, and figuring out the value of a site visitor is another piece of the pie. How else will you know if you’re getting your moneys worth? If you do advertise in print, radio or TV, you likely have a method for tracking where your business comes from, but for your website alone, it’s fairly easy.
What is a “Conversion”?
Whatever your goal is for defining a web visitor as a success, then that’s the “conversion”. Define for yourself what the “conversion” is that you want to track. How you define that is up to you. If you want to call it a sale, great, that makes it easy. If a phone call or a completed email contact form is your goal, then that’s the “conversion”. There are some sites who’s only goal may be to get traffic, so you’re already done. Now you need to determine the rate at which those visitors are “converting”.
How do you determine the “Conversion Rate”?
Look at your website statistics program, (This assumes that all web-hosts now supply even the most basic free statistics program with your domain hosting) and get your UNIQUE VISITORS count for the month. Forget your page count, “hits”, or “page views” or any other stat. You want the UNIQUE VISITOR COUNT for the month. Then, you divide the number of conversions, by the UNIQUE VISITOR COUNT to get the conversion rate.
Once you know the following facts about your website to be true…
1000 unique visitors
200 contact forms
100 phone calls
30 sales of product
Gross profit $1000
then each of these statistics below can stand on it’s own, and help you make profitable decisions.
If you have 30 people that bought your product, and had 1,000 unique visitors, then your “conversion rate” for visitors is 30 conversions, divided by 1,000 “unique visitors” , or 3 percent.
To take this further, if you receive 200 emails leading to the sale of 30 products, then your conversion rate for visitors to contact forms is 20% (200 emails, divided by 1000 unique visitors) and your conversion rate for contact forms to sales is 6.6% (200 contacts divided by 30 sales)
Likewise, If you got 100 phone calls, then the phone call conversion rate for visitors is 10%. (100 phone calls divided by 1000 unique visitors).
Therefore, if on those 100 phone calls you made 30 sales then the conversion rate for phone calls to sale is 3% (100 phone calls divided by 30 sales) making each phone call worth $10 ($1000 profit divided by 100 phone calls)
Now lets look at your month profit. If your gross profit was $9000, then you made $1000 profit. The end result of those 1000 unique visitors was 200 emails, 100 phone calls, and 30 sales. Therefore, you can make the following conclusions:
If you made $1000 profit from your website, with 1000 unique visitors, then each legitimate unique visitor you can get to your site is worth $1 each.
If on those 30 products sold, you made 1000$ profit, then every single one of the sales was worth $33 each. On those 200 email contacts generated, you made 30 sales, for a total of $1000 profit, so the value of each email contact form you got was worth $5.
Therefore, with all of the above now in evidence, you can participate in advertising program that generates contact forms for less than $5, or a web visitor for less than $1, you are getting a good ROI.
This is a bit over simplified, and any high dollar campaign should be analyzed much more thoroughly, but the essence of the formula doesn’t change. Once you know these core numbers, and you know what a web visitor is worth to your company, you can begin to make smart decisions about how you get them there.
